Indonesian Consumer Organization (YLKI) suspects insurance companies such as PT Asuransi Jiwa Manulife Indonesia conducts a common mode of insurance to harm consumers. YLKI’s Complaints and Legal Officer, Mustafa, conveyed the matter of Manulife's denying the claims of beneficiaries due to incorrect data in the policy submission form.
Mustafa insisted this incident should not happen. Moreover, the policyholder had died since 2016. Indeed, consumers must have good faith in filling out the data when filing a policy, but insurance companies are required to detect anomalies, verify and conduct judgment before issuing the policy," Mustafa said on Wednesday (11/8/2017).
Mustafa said the dispute of PT Asuransi Jiwa Manulife Indonesia with a beneficiary named Johan Solomon can be considered an alleged violation of Consumer Protection Act.
"We'll see if there is any violations against provisions, violations of business actors, and offending the standard clause. Three of these issues have criminal nuances. I think this can be subjected to the Consumer Protection Act. It's the police and investigator's tasks to handle the matter," Mustafa said.
