AN Indonesian maid, who was allegedly abused by her employers in Taman Kota Permai 2, Bukit Mertajam, died of her injuries at Bukit Mertajam Hospital today. Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the victim, known as Adelina, 21, from Medan, was confirmed dead about 4.45pm after suffering severe injuries on several parts of her body.
He said a post-mortem would be conducted at the hospital at 9am tomorrow to ascertain the cause of death.
He said the maid's employers - a woman and her brother, aged 36 and 39 – had been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He said investigations were ongoing, and police would record statements from neighbours, the maid's agent and friends, and the doctors who had treated her.
Adelina, who had been working for her employers for two years, had suffered bruises on the head and face, as well as wounds on the legs.
She was rescued at 8pm yesterday after police received a report from an assistant to an elected representative in Bukit Mertajam.
