Traditional medicine and honey products that were supposedly to be a cure-all for all sorts of ailments were seized from a shoplot here.
One box was labelled as “Air Penawar Pondok” (Hut Antidote). Another product was called “Madu Tualang As-Sunnah” (As Sunnah Tualang Honey).
These were among the goods found by Penang Health Department staff during a raid on Thursday. They also found a honey-based food product there. Sold at RM8, it claimed to cure a range of illnesses.
Health officer Mohd Wazir Khalid said the raid was conducted after a tip-off. He said 75 products worth RM2,931 were seized. The shop’s so-called medicinal products did not have any endorsements on the labels, he said.
“We also seized zam-zam water that claimed to reduce the risk of diseases and to treat cancer. These products were seized under Section 18E of the Food Regulation 1985, with several products found to be from the same manufacturer,” he added.
Mohd Wazir said the shop owner was issued a compound amounting to RM3,000.
