Subang Jaya residents’ fear that outsiders parking in their housing area with the opening of new Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations there are not unfounded. Complaints of indiscriminate parking, in several neighbourhoods, have increased after the new LRT line extension project began operations last month
Of the seven stations in Subang Jaya, only three were built with park-and-ride facilities, namely the Subang Jaya, USJ7 and USJ21 stations.
However, only the USJ21 station parking facilities, which has 564 bays, is ready. There should be 1,384 parking bays at the Subang Jaya station, 1,476 parking bays at USJ7 once it is completed. At the other stations, namely SS15, SS18, USJ7 and Taipan, there has been a marked increase in the number of vehicles parked indiscriminately on road shoulders, along the walkway to the train stations and under trees in housing areas.
Cars are also parked along main roads while some commuters are misusing parking spots in front of the stations, reserved for Rapid KL employees. A representative from Rapid KL said auxiliary police had been instructed to clamp vehicles parked at bays meant for their personnel.
Concerned about security issues, some residents plan to implement the gated-and-guarded scheme to prevent commuters from entering their housing areas.
