In a span of two months, he has had profanities hurled at him, been threatened with a steering lock and most recently, attacked with pepper spray. All this for just doing his job.
Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) officer Norsafuan Nordin described the latest attack as “his worst experience ever”.
“I am used to dealing with angry motorists but I never thought one of them would resort to using pepper spray on me,” he said when contacted.
Recalling the incident, Norsafuan said he had just clamped a car for parking illegally when he was confronted by an angry couple along Jalan Puteri 1/4, Bandar Puteri Puchong on Tuesday.
“They scolded me for clamping their car. The man also threatened to use pepper spray on me if I did not unclamp it. When I refused, he took out the canister and sprayed it at my face,” he said, adding that the spray did not hurt his eyes as he was wearing glasses.
But Norsafuan said he inhaled the fumes, which made him choke and have difficulty breathing.
“That’s all I remember of the incident. Now, I have a sore throat due to the substance,” said the officer, who joined the council about 10 years ago.
Norsafuan said he was unfazed and would continue working “as usual”.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said police picked up a man at around 10.30pm on Wednesday in Bandar Kinrara.
“The jobless man, in his 50s, admitted to having sprayed an MPSJ officer before throwing away the canister,” he said.
On Sept 6, Norsafuan was clamping a car for parking in a lot reserved for the disabled when he was confronted by a woman with a steering lock.
A video of the incident went viral, showing him keeping his cool while the woman scolded and threatened him.
Due to his professionalism in handling the situation, a commendation letter was presented to him by Subang Jaya assemblywoman Hannah Yeoh.
