Police are on the hunt for a taxi driver who allegedly robbed a Bangladeshi man of RM3,900 here on Tuesday.
The incident allegedly took place at Jalan San Peng here, where the 41-year-old Bangladeshi man had hailed the cab to go to Sunway Putra Mall.
Along the way, the victim saw that the taxi’s metre was rising exponentially, reaching into the thousands of ringgit. “The victim asked the taxi driver about the ridiculous amount, but he claimed that the taxi driver got enraged and grabbed a knife.
“The taxi driver ordered him to pay US$1,500 (RM6,134), but the victim, who feared for his safety, handed over all of his money amounting to RM3,900,” Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah said.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery.
