The rude behaviour of a few airport security staffs towards Chinese tourists asking for help at their kiosks has drawn the ire of netizens.
In a Facebook post that went viral, Sarawak United People's Party central woman section advisor Any Tnay Li Ping, who was in the terminal and witnessed the incident, expressed her dismay at the dismal behaviour of the guards.
"I was shocked by the two security guards while I was passing the immigration counter at KLIA2. There were two Chinese tourists in front of me, they asked the security where should they go to if they wanted to transit to Penang in Mandarin, one of the security answered: "Saya tak faham Cina, u cakap Melayu, kalau tak pandai cakap Melayu, balik Cina! " (I don't understand Chinese, you speak Malay, if you're not good at Malay then go back to China!)," according to her Facebook posting.
Amy had already filed a complaint with the Minister of Art and Cultural Tourism of Sarawak Datuk Haji Abdul Karim who had promised her that he would issue a letter to the director of Airport security for further investigations.
Amy has proposed that an information kiosk be set up in the airport in English and Mandarin to deal with the influx of Chinese tourists coming into the country.
She said that she regrets not getting their names and identification as she was busy helping the tourists.
In light of this, a statement had been released by Malaysian Airports Berhad saying that they had gone through the CCTV footage of the airport and that the officers in question were from the Immigration Department.
"We would like to inform that through our initial findings, the incident had happened at the immigration counter. We will alert our friends at the immigration office as we do not condone such actions by any of our airport community staff. The airport treats all passengers professionally with care and respect," the statement read.
The statement then went on asking Amy to share her contact so that they could "reach out to her" and it signed off as "Malaysia Airports". Amy though seems sceptical saying that this could be a bogus statement as the MAB could have reached out to her privately via Facebook messenger.
"I don't know if this statement is true, they could have reached out to me via Facebook anytime, why did they have to release a media statement?" she asked.
The immigration department is yet to respond to this story.
