The "Datuk", who was seen hitting and berating a carpark attendant in a viral video recently, did it all because of RM3.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ruslan Khalid said the victim, 31, had refused to raise the boom gate because the "Datuk" did not pay the RM3 parking fees.
"The suspect, who drove a Range Rover, then came to scold and hit the victim in the 9.20am incident on Sept 18. The victim, who suffered minor bruises, lodged a police report the next day," he said when contacted on Thursday (Oct 11).
ACP Ruslan said the police have identified the "Datuk" in the video and the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
According to the text accompanying the 1.18-minute video, the incident happened at a carpark office at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
"The poor staff (sic) had to undergo this treatment from this guy just because he thinks he is a Datuk or something like that. I am sure a police report must have been made but no action has been taken to date. Please viral (sic) this so the mad culprit is brought to justice," the text read.
The man in the video was seen to be agitated with the carpark attendant, gesturing angrily before entering the booth, where he then shoves a chair and hits the man.
Facebook users said the man involved in hitting the attendant was a "Datuk" and a director of a local telecommunications company.
Netizens also suggested that the incident happened at a certain Kuala Lumpur hotel, but a spokesman for the hotel told The Star that they could not confirm if it happened at their premises.
"We can't confirm that this is indeed here … There have not been any allegations made that I am aware of. If there are any allegations made, we will investigate," the spokesman said.
