Fugitive financier Low Taek Jho had cheated my administarion, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
Najib said available evidence now showed that money had been siphoned from 1Malaysian Development Bhd (1MDB), which was supposed to raise funds for development projects in the country. He said his relationship with Low was purely professional, and he saw the potential of Low bringing in business from the Middle East to Malaysia.
“Whatever he did in his personal capacity, including buying a yacht, private jet or partying, I am not aware of those. We appointed lawyers, auditors and Goldman Sachs, a well-known investment bank in the world, to look after the interest of Malaysia. So, if they had failed to take care of the interest of Malaysia, how should I know? They should have informed (me) that something was not right,“ he said.
Najib also said he was in the dark on the alleged misappropriation of 1MDB funds. He criticised those who were dealing with 1MDB, including Goldman Sachs, for not alerting Malaysia. The former Umno president said action should be taken against Low for his wrongdoing.
