The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has paid RM93.57 million in compensation for accidents involving workers commuting between home and workplace for the period January to October this year. Socso said the amount was for temporary disability benefits based on 25,219 cases which received an average benefit payment of RM3,710 per case.
“Compared to the same period last year, Socso paid RM94.53 million for 26,637 cases with an average payment for each case being RM3,550,” according to the statement today.
For fatal and non-fatal accidents, Socso also paid benefits amounting to RM169.08 million for temporary disability cases and RM421.86 million for permanent disability cases, as for dependants’ benefit, Socso paid RM240.07 million.
“Hence, through the Prihatin Squad, Socso will continue to be more proactive in assisting contributors involved in accidents. This includes accelerating the payment of benefits to reduce the burden of contributors or their next-of-kin involved in accidents,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the public administration and defence sectors, as well as compulsory security activities, continue to be the largest group to receive benefits for temporary disability amounting to RM60.51 million during the period this year.
Among other sectors which received the highest benefit amounts were manufacturing (RM42.04 million), construction (RM22.41 million) and trading (RM19.83 million).
“Last year, the public administration and defence sectors, as well as compulsory security activities, received benefits amounting to RM64.41 million, manufacturing (RM44.08 million), construction (RM23.94 million) and trading (RM23.53 million),” the statement said.
