A lorry driver assaulted a doctor at the Penang Hospital here this morning for declining to issue a medical certificate (MC) to his wife.
The 38-year-old man had brought in his spouse for treatment at the hospital’s Emergency Department at 1am.
However, despite his request, the 29-year-old doctor who attended to his wife refused to issue her a medical certificate, as she was not seriously ill. It is not known what the woman was suffering from.
Angered by the snub, the man slapped the doctor across his cheek.
Bernama reported that a commotion ensued, before the lorry driver fled the hospital.
The assaulted doctor promptly lodged a police report on the incident, and police were able to track down and arrest the lorry driver in Datuk Keramat here, at 2.22am.
“A urine test was conducted, and the suspect tested positive for meth. He has since been arrested,” said Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zaimani Che Awang.
He added that initial checks revealed that the man has a police record of theft and drug-related offences.
