Covid-Scam Up & Ah Long Down

Loan sharks sharpen their bite | The Star OnlineScammers are using new tactics to trick victims. A new modus operandi was found following six police reports filed in April. Scammers would tell victims to download a beta testing app on their hand phone, before instructing them to click on a link that led to a fake Bank Negara page. They were then told to fill in their particulars in an online form, including bank details.
The scammers will then take the money out before instructing the victim to delete their forms. Six cases have been reported, with losses estimated to be around RM295,350. The link has been taken down for now, but it may come back online when people become lax. We want to warn people to be vigilant and to ask the authorities if they have any doubts.
In other news, the movement control order had led to a huge drop in Ah Long cases. The CCID recorded 41 cases since the movement control order began, as opposed to the 218 Ah Long cases before the MCO began.
