Job Satisfaction - Malaysian

Come Sunday evening and social media is flooded with moans and groans about how fast the weekend has whizzed by and how Monday will soon be upon us. As it turns out, a recent survey by JobStreet.com shows that most Malaysians are actually unhappy with their current jobs... contributing to this constant dread of a new work week once the weekend is over.

A whopping 78 per cent of the 1,145 respondents in the Employee Job Satisfaction admitted to being dissatisfied with their scope of work. Many of these disgruntled employees felt that their work was predictable and boring or it was just too much.

Another reason given was that they did not have a good relationship with their superiors.
Surprisingly, salary was not the main reason young people were unhappy with their jobs as only 17 per cent cited that as a reason for quitting their jobs. Eleven per cent of those who took part in the survey were happy with their salaries.

Of the remaining 22 per cent who said they were happy at work, half of them said they enjoy the challenges and experiences that come with their occupation.

Being appreciated by their bosses and a good relationship with their colleagues contributed to their job satisfaction.

All in all, the respondents felt that opportunities for career development and work-life balance in the company are the ultimate determinants for workplace happiness. Sixty-two per cent of the employees feel that if these needs are not met, they would not hesitate to find another job.

“A company with strong management workflow that meets customer’s demands, good colleagues who can help one another with office politics at its minimum, and a good career opportunity is a pull factor for me to enjoy my job,” said one of the respondents.
