Rozita Mohamad Ali claimed trial after the charges were read out to her in front of Sessions Court Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam today. Rozita, who uses the honorific “Datin”, is alleged to have used a kitchen knife, a clothes hanger, a steel mop and also an umbrella in assaulting and abusing the teenage Indonesian maid, Suyanti Sutrinso.
Suyanti, 19 had sustained multiple injuries to her hands, legs and even internal organs during the assault, which has been classified as attempted murder by the prosecution.The alleged offence was committed between 7am and 12pm on Dec 21 at a house in Mutiara Damansara, according to the news portal.
The 43-year-old Rozita, who appeared in court dressed in a black dress, black hijab and sunglasses, was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. She was represented by Rosal Azimin Ahmad, who asked for bail of RM5,000 for his client, whom he said has asthma and is currently unemployed.
Judge Mohamad Kamil, however, set bail at RM20,000 with one surety and ordered that Rozita’s passport be held by the court, Star Online reported. The judge fixed the case for mention on Feb 17, 2017.
