Bank Rakyat in collaboration with Takaful Ikhlas Berhad today launched a highly affordable protection plan known as Takaful Amani Plus, at as low as 25 sen per day in premium.
This was in response to the call by Bank Negara Malaysia for every resident of this country to be covered by at least one protection plan.
Bank Rakyat president and managing director, Datuk Zulkiflee Abbas Abdul Hamid said the takaful insurance plan ensured financial coverage in the event of death, permanent disabilities due to natural causes or losses due to an accident.
“This protection plan is offered at as low as RM90 per year and I believe that at this rate, the majority of the country’s population can afford the product.
“Hopefully, this very affordable protection plan could help solve the problem of lack of interest among many consumers to obtain a takaful protection plan,” he said at the launching of the Takaful Amani Plus plan at the Kedah Financial Carnival, here, today.
This plan, which is an upgrade of the Takaful Amani launched in 2010, offers up to RM30,000 in benefits in the event of death or permanent disabilities due to natural causes and up to RM150,000 in the event of death or permanent disabilities due to an accident.
Zulkiflee noted that the statistics showed about 44 per cent of people in this country were not covered by any takaful protection scheme, with one of the factors being the unaffordable rates, especially for the low-income earners.
“Based on statistics from the police, about 20 people died each day in the 7,152 fatal accident cases recorded in 2016. This shows we are at risk of danger each day,” he said.
In fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, Bank Rakyat also gave out the Takaful Amani Plus card for free for a period of one year to 50 single mothers in Kedah.
