Residents living at Imbi flats along Jalan Khoo Teik Ee, Kuala Lumpur, are irked by abandoned vehicles that are taking up parking spots in the area. The bays, meant for the residents, are occupied by about 20 vehicles that have been left there to rot.
Resident Lim Choon Yean, who has highlighted the problems to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), said the abandoned cars were an eyesore. “We have a shortage of parking space because of the vehicles occupying the lots.
At the site, some of the vehicles including a van, were dirty and seemed to be left untouched for many years while some were found to have no tyres and the door missing. Lim also said the area was in a state of neglect with broken drains, pothole-riddled roads and overall hygiene was unsatisfactory.
“The roads have become uneven due to use by heavy vehicles from a construction site nearby. Drain covers are damaged and can be dangerous for pedestrians. We have contacted DBKL but no action has been taken,” he said.
Another resident of the flats, TK Lee, 56, said the hygiene here had deteriorated following an influx of foreigners.
“Several of them have taken over some of the businesses here and it affects the local market. Some houses have also been rented to the foreigners who work as construction workers,” he said.
A DBKL spokesman said he would investigate the matter. “As for the abandoned cars, we cannot tow them away if they are located on a private compound. Residents can contact the call centre 1800-88-3255 to lodge a complaint,” he said.
