Malaysian Crime Watch (MyWatch) chairman Datuk Seri Sanjeevan Ramakrisnan was sentenced by Temerloh magistrate’s court today three-month jail and RM7,000 fine for extortion.
Sanjeevan, 34, was accused of committing the offence by impersonating a policeman from the police headquarters, at a cyber cafe at No 25-27-29, Jalan Dagangan 8, Pusat Dagangan Triang, Pahang, on July 2013 at 9.45pm.
He was charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code.
Sanjeevan, pleaded not guilty to the offence committed together with Ramesh Balakrishnan, 40.
Meanwhile, Ramesh, who pleaded guilty to the offence, was sentenced to 14-day imprisonment and a RM1,000 fine.
The duo was reported to have demanded for a RM10,000 monthly protection money from the outlet owner, Chan Leong Kwan, 40.
The businessman told the accused that he was only able to pay RM1,500 before loding a police report.
Court ordered the sentence to run from today.
