On Dec 31, 2018 AirAsia Group chief executive Tan Sri Tony Fernandes had announced via Facebook Live that the budget carrier will stop collecting the RM3 klia2 fee from “next week”.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has clarified that it is not the authority that imposes the klia2 fee of RM3. The fee is charged and collected by AirAsia Group Bhd as part of its ticket price, stressed the state-owned airport operator.
In a statement today, MAHB said that it has received some media enquiries on the matter since the announcement made by AirAsia several days ago on their decision to stop charging and collecting the klia2 fee.
“ The klia2 fee had been imposed and collected solely by AirAsia since the klia2 terminal started operations in 2014. The only charges to passengers collected by Malaysia Airports are the passenger service charges (PSC) of RM11 for Domestic departure, RM35 for International departure to ASEAN countries and RM73 for International departure to Non-ASEAN countries.”
