Donald Trump’s penchant for publicly lying about matters with wide-reaching legal implications has not been missed by CNN's Asha Rangappa, a former FBI special agent who now teaches at Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs.
In the aftermath of Trump's claim that he can pardon himself issued in a tweet earlier on Monday, Rangappa blasted the president’s attorney and former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani's latest argument against meeting with special counsel Robert Mueller.
“Basically, Mr. Giuliani is saying that he doesn’t want the president to sit for an interview because neither the president nor his lawyers can keep the lies straight,” the former FBI agent said. “And they’re not going to be able to settle on one story.”
“We’ve seen this over and over again,” Rangappa told host Poppy Harlow, mentioning the administration’s changing stories on the infamous Trump Tower meeting.
“In the Stormy Daniels case, he claimed he knew nothing about the payments there,” she continued, “now Rudy Giuliani has admitted he did”
“They can’t keep the lies straight,” Rangappa concluded.
