Free Musang Durians, Mangosteens & Mangoes

It was pandemonium at SP Arena here last night where the owner of a durian orchard gave away nearly 1,000 of the thorny fruits to celebrate Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) win at the polls and Anwar Ibrahim’s return to his hometown.

Raymond Cheah said he was Anwar’s old friend and had supported him since the Reformasi movement in 1998.

"Everywhere Datuk Seri (Anwar) goes, I will follow and bring durians along to be given away for free. I am doing this because PH won and we love Anwar,” he said, standing beside his one-tonne lorry which was parked outside the hall. I am doing this to thank Malaysians for voting in a new government.”

And the people appeared to accept the thanks with open arms as the entire lorry load of durians was gone in about two minutes. Cheah, 57, said he had handed out another 1,000 durians to those who attended Anwar’s buka puasa event in Permatang Pauh.

All of the durians come from his orchard in Pahang. He has also given out dates, mangosteens and mangoes from India at another of Anwar’s functions. He declined to reveal how much he had spent on the durians, saying only that he was giving them out as a sincere form of thanks.
The going price for a Musang King durian in the market ranges from RM35 to RM50 per kg.
