A Singaporean Airlines passenger was enraged when he found that his luggage had been tampered with between the time he checked in his luggage at Ngurah Rai Interntional Airport in Bali and his arrival at Changi Airport in Singapore.
Upset about the situation, Japan-born Katei Chang shared on Facebook on Monday, February 26, how he found that the lock was “ripped off” and his luggage “broken into” after he retrieved his luggage from the belt.
He also posted a photo of his damaged luggage, where he said that we “can tell by the picture that it was broken into with a lot of force.”
Luckily for the professional violinist, nothing was stolen but he did find that some items such as his CDs and music sheets were opened.
He added that there were three other passengers from the same flight had their luggage tampered with but were unfortunate to have their items stolen as well.
“The real scary thought isn't your belongings being stolen, it's the drugs/bombs that may be planted in your luggage without you knowing.
“I flew 78 flights last year and never came across anything disgusting like this,” he wrote in his post, which has been shared 4,500 times at the time of writing.
Since his post went viral, Chang said that the director of Ngurah Rai International Airport and its operator, Angkasa Pura Airports has reached out to him to investigate the incident and are reviewing their CCTV footage while a full report has been done by Singapore Airlines’ "Baggage Assistance Service" in Changi Airport.
As incidents like this can happen to anyone, Chang advised travellers to always check their luggage when they retrieve it from the belt.
“Check if your wheels are broken and check if your locks have been broken into, and report it to authority right away,” he advised.
