A former senior government official has been remanded to help anti-graft officers in their investigations into the alleged siphoning of more than RM100mil from rural project funds.
The 40-year-old former deputy under secretary (infrastructure) from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry will be held for six days until Oct 11.
The woman was arrested at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters at 8.15pm on Thursday after she was called in to record her statement over the case.
Two other people have also been arrested over the alleged embezzlement of ministry funds.
They are Parti Warisan Sabah vice-president Datuk Peter Anthony and a businessman from Sabah.
It was reported that funds to carry out projects meant to help the rural community were siphoned off by certain officials believed to be working in cahoots with several companies.
These projects included those to improve basic amenities and infrastructure such as the upgrading of water and electricity supplies and the repair and maintenance of roads in areas where the hardcore poor live.
The culprits are believed to have pocketed more than RM100mil.
