A motorist thought he could lodge a police report against city council enforcers for being rude, but found himself arrested instead because he allegedly freed his car after it was clamped for illegal parking.
It all started on Monday when he parked his car illegally in Beach Street near a bank and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) enforcers duly clamped his wheel at 12.45pm. When he returned to his car and realised his predicament, he lost his temper.
“He spoke rudely to our team and even shouted vulgarities. We explained that he had to pay the RM50 fine but he absolutely refused. Then he took out his car jack,” said an MBPP spokesman.
In front of the enforcers, the 27-year-old man jacked up his car and unscrewed the bolts of the clamped wheel. He then took out his spare tyre, bolted it on, stowed the clamped wheel in his car boot and drove off.
“We didn’t try to stop him. We kept our cool. We just took pictures of what he did and lodged a police report,” the MBPP spokesman said.
On Wednesday, the man went to the Jelutong police station at about 11pm, wanting to lodge a report against the enforcers. But he got handcuffed instead.
Yesterday, magistrate’s court deputy registrar Muhammad Azam Md Eusoff issued the remand order for police to hold him until Sunday.
Police are investigating him for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
